Murder suspect killed in shootout with law enforcement near Houston’s Third Ward, deputies say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A suspect wanted in a woman’s murder last week has died after shots were fired between him and law enforcement near Houston’s Third Ward on Wednesday.

According to Harris County deputies, authorities found murder suspect Dimitri Humphrey near the 2600 block of Calumet Street.

Gonzalez said shots were exchanged between the suspect and law enforcement.

Humphrey was accused of shooting and killing 26-year-old Shantavia Reddick, identified as third-grade teacher at Smith Elementary, and her dog during a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend.

Reddick allegedly went to help a friend who was trying to get out of an alleged abusive relationship.

No officers were reportedly injured in Wednesday’s shooting.
