Champions League: Manchester United will have to stop Harry Kane, says Rio Ferdinand ahead of Bayern Munich clash

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has said that the Red Devils will have to stop Bayern Munich’s new striker, Harry Kane. Manchester United are set to face Bayern Munich in the group-stage of the UEFA Champions League on Thursday, September 21.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Ferdinand said Kane is a phenomenal player and his record speaks for himself. Kane joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

“I can’t wait. Look at the clubs. Two clubs with huge history. The backdrop of Harry Kane being there as well, the England captain, someone who a lot of Manchester United fans would have wanted to come and wear the United shirt. He’s a phenomenal player, his record speaks for itself,” said Ferdinand.

He went on to say that no one in the Manchester United dressing room is going to take Kane for granted. Kane left Tottenham as their all-time top-scorer, netting 280 goals in 431 matches.

“I don’t think there will be anyone in the Manchester United dressing room taking him for granted or being complacent. He’s a fabulous player, well respected and rightly so. The guy knows where the goal is, he knows how to score goals. Manchester United are going to have to stop him, among others,” Ferdinand added.

The former England centre-back said Manchester United are back in the competition that they wanted to be. Manchester United are back in the Champions League after a gap of one year.

“Manchester United are back in the competition where they want to be. It’s a tough ask, away to Bayern Munich, no matter what year you go there, what team they’ve got. They will give you a tough, tough game. It will be interesting to see how it goes,” said Ferdinand.

Manchester United will kick-off their UEFA Champions League campaign against Bayern Munich, before taking on Galatasaray on October 4.
