Wasim Akram spoke about the workload management of Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah during the India vs Australia series ahead of the World Cup.

Bumrah made a triumphant return to international cricket in 2023 after an 11-month hiatus due to a back injury. His comeback was marked by impressive performances in the Ireland T20 series and the Asia Cup 2023.

Following his successful performance in Ireland, Bumrah continued to impress in the Asia Cup 2023. Despite having only bowled 12 overs into the tournament, he had already taken three wickets, demonstrating that he was back to his best.

Kohli was a key player in the Asia Cup 2023. He has scored 129 runs in three innings, maintaining an average of 64.50 and a strike rate of 114.15. His journey in the tournament began on a low note with a disappointing score of just 4 runs against Pakistan in Pallekele, bowled out by left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi.

However, Kohli bounced back in the Super 4 round at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where he played a spectacular innings, scoring an unbeaten 122 runs off 94 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes. He also partnered in an unbroken 233-run partnership with KL Rahul.

India won the Asia Cup on Sunday and their next assignment will be the ODI series against Australia, starting on September.

Speaking after India’s Asia Cup final win, as quoted by Hindustan Times, Akram suggested that Bumrah should play atleast two matches in the series and said the pacer’s shoulder strength can improve. The Pakistan legend said that Kohli can be given a complete rest.

Akram suggested that Suryakumar Yadav, who has been struggling in ODIs, should play the whole series against Australia and the warm-up matches.

“Out of the three games (against Australia), Bumrah should play at least two as he is coming out of injury. His rhythm is looking good, he’s looking incredible but his muscles can get stronger. Suryakumar Yadav is struggling in ODIs recently, he can play all those five games (Australia series and two warm-ups). Sometimes, Virat can rest as well because it is a long World Cup. They have to play 9 games,” said Akram.
